Withernsea – August 2025

Another fantastic rally at Hollym Holiday Park a well located site being a ten minute bus ride from the seaside town of Withernsea and a short stroll from the local pub The Plough Inn which serves lovely food and a wide selection of drinks, including some Cask ales.  There was also live music on Saturday evening!  We were fortunate that the weather was much better than forecast which allowed everyone to enjoy the Blue Light Festival Weekend, and explore the local area on their bikes or on foot.

The rally was organised to coincide with the Blue Light Festival which was started in 2023.  This is an annual event honoring the vision of a local RNLI volunteer, Steve Medcalf, who sadly lost his life in November 2022.  Steve wanted to showcase the town and its emergency services and the event brings together various emergency, lifesaving, and veteran services.  There was an amazing colour run, a fun fair, food and drink, live entertainment and music, a military museum and vehicles, as well as many charity stalls.  There really was something for everyone!
The highlight of the weekend was the amazing air show on Sunday afternoon which included the oldest airworthy Bell 47 helicopter in the country, a 1945 Boeing Stearman, a Tiger Moth, a Jubilee Pitts high-performance biplane, the Starlings Display Team which performed high speed synchronised stunts, a 1942 Stearman  aircraft and finally a dogfight between the world’s only two-seater Hawker Hurricane and a Messerschmitt 108.  Wow!
